Elegant Afro Chemicals (EAC)

is an initiative of Elegant Line Chemicals (ELC), a SABS ISO9001 accredited company and level 1 BBBEE contributor. The company has been in existence for 11years and is owned and managed by an African female professional with skills and experience believed to make a difference in the chemical sector. ELC commodity chemicals and potable water and waste water treatment business enjoys 60% of the company’s annual turnover, hence, the company decided to focus more on commodity chemicals by moving from distribution to mass production. It was of this reason that ELC decided to form Elegant Afro Chemicals (EAC) with the core business being to establish, maintain and manage the Chlor Alkali plant in Richardsbay IDZ.
The initiative was also driven by a gap in the market for import replacement and industrialisation transformation. The development phase started in 2014 as a direct result of the DTI trade missions to India and Italy led by the Honorable ex Deputy Minister, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe. EAC has 5 African directors working alongside Thyssen Krupp RSA to commission the 1 billion rand Chlor alkali plant that will create about 185 sustainable jobs and 300 during the two year period of construction.
